The Berkeley Crisis Chaplaincy was formed in 1999 to provide full-time Pastoral Care and counseling to all emergency responders (law enforcement, emergency medical service, fire and rescue personnel) and their families. Our Chaplains also assist the Coroner's Office in next-of-kin sudden death notification. Our ministry offers comfort and counsel to the survivors of critical incidents whose lives have been changed due to a violent crime or unexpected incident.
We assist area SWAT teams and the tri-county Mobile Crisis Unit in hostage negotiations and barricade situations. Chaplains also assist Berkeley County Emergency Management Director during natural disasters and other emergency situations in the county.
A volunteer Board of Directors governs the Berkeley Crisis Chaplaincy with one paid employee serving as the senior chaplain. He/she is the primary responder, coordinating and monitoring the ministry and training of the associate chaplains. Chaplains are available 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. When you need us, We Are There.
The Associate Ministry: a dozen men and women, all volunteers, make up a committed team of associate chaplains. This team of well-trained and ecumenically diverse ministers serves under the supervision of the senior chaplain. They provide pastoral care to first responders, victims at collision and crime scenes, in the detention center; after natural disasters and other crisis situations. Associate chaplains also provide follow-up visits to hospitals and homes to insure that the needs of individuals are met.
The Berkeley Crisis Chaplaincy is a full time emergency response ministry in Berkeley County, dedicated to providing pastoral care to emergency response personnel, their families and all of the citizens of Berkeley County.
The Berkeley County Sheriff's Office provides a police car
and communication equipment and Berkeley County Coroner's provides an office
space. The financial support for this ministry comes from the citizens of
the greater Berkeley County area and beyond churches, civic groups, businesses
and corporations and individual donations. All contributions are overseen
by a Board of Directors and will cover training, administrative expenses and
salary. Your prayers and financial support will unsure the continuation of
this vital ministry. Berkeley Crisis Chaplaincy is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit
organization and all contributions are tax deductible.
